Jon Faddis is an American jazz trumpet player, conductor, composer, and educator, renowned for both his playing and for his expertise in the field of music education. Upon his first appearance on the scene, he became known for his ability to closely mirror the sound of trumpet icon Dizzy Gillespie, who was his mentor along with pianist Stan Kenton and trumpeter Bill Catalano.
Koger Jazz Heritage Festival: Vincent Gardner with USC Jazz Faculty
The second concert of the inaugural Koger Jazz Heritage Festival moves to the Darla Moore School of Business Johnson Performance Hall. Trombonist Vincent Gardner, joined by our illustrious USC Jazz Faculty, performs an exciting program of big band jazz at 3 p.m.
A member of the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra, Vincent Gardner has contributed many arrangements to the orchestra. In 2009, he was commissioned by Jazz at Lincoln Center to compose “The Jesse B. Semple Suite,” a 60-minute piece inspired by the short stories of Langston Hughes. Vincent is featured as trombonist on a number of notable recordings and has recorded five CDs as a bandleader for Steeplechase Records. He has performed with The Duke Ellington Orchestra, Bobby McFerrin, Harry Connick, Jr., The Saturday Night Live Band, Chaka Khan, A Tribe Called Quest, and many others. He remains a member of the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra and is the founding Artistic and Education Director of Jazz Houston. Gardner currently serves as Director of the Jazz at Lincoln Center Youth Orchestra and an instructor at Jazz at Lincoln Center’s Swing University.

Jazz at The Strand: Wycliffe Gordon - Hello Pops!
This program is near and dear to Wycliffe Gordon's heart.
Louis Armstrong is one of his biggest musical influences, and this show features music that was regularly performed by him. The show includes many of the songs that Armstrong made famous, such as “When You're Smiling,” “Hello Dolly,” and “What A Wonderful World,” along with several of Wycliffe's originals, including “I Give You Love,” which expresses his musical sentiment. Other hits featured in the show include “Black and Blue,” “It Don’t Mean a Thing,” “Ow,” and “When the Saints Go Marchin’ In.” In this show, Wycliffe sings and plays several instruments, including trombone, soprano trombone, and trumpet.

L4 Jazz is an Augusta-based ensemble dedicated to revitalizing the local music scene with a blend of classic jazz standards and modern, soulful grooves. The core trio features Lamar Morgan on drums, Nery Kim on piano, and Travis Shaw on bass, though they frequently collaborate with a diverse range of local artists and vocalists. Known for their professional, vibrant energy and engaging performances, L4 Jazz has quickly become a staple at various Augusta venues, including The Partridge Inn, Metro Coffeehouse and Pub, and Savannah River Brewery, offering an "unmatched" vibe that appeals to both seasoned jazz lovers and newcomers.
L4 will be joined by Mark Rapp, a nationally recognized trumpeter, composer, and educator based in Columbia, SC, renowned for founding the Cola Jazz Foundation, a nonprofit that revitalized the local jazz scene through festivals, educational programs (like summer jazz camps), and artist advocacy, earning him the title of South Carolina’s Jazz Ambassador and a "Jazz Hero" award for his transformative work in building a vibrant jazz ecosystem from the ground up
We are thrilled that the New Light Jazz Combo from Davidson Fine Arts, led by Elvie Jenkins, will be opening the concert for us!
